Description
This father and son team have carved out a winning Small Batch Bourbon aged in smaller-sized casks.
David Woods is the father, and David Woods is the son (no, not David junior). But they started the Wiggly Bridge Distillery together in 2013 on Repeal Day (December 5th — the 80th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition). They hand built their own custom, small batch stills in York, Maine, and set about the craft of making fine Spirits. The company is named after a local landmark — the smallest pedestrian suspension bridge in America. Built in 1930, it has stood the test of time and rugged New England winters — though it does bounce and wiggle a bit when you walk across.
Small barrels age Spirits faster. This is because there is more liquid to wood contact. Where “normal” American Whiskey barrels hold about fifty-three gallons, the barrels used by Wiggly Bridge are just thirty gallons each with a #3 char. And Wiggly Bridge Small Barrel Bourbon sits in those barrels for less than two years. The mash bill is a traditional mix — 58% corn, 37% rye, and 5% malted barley. And it’s bottled at a spot-on perfect 43% ABV
Smartass Corner:
Technically, if you could economically make barrels the size of a mason jar the Whiskey could age to years worth of taste in a matter of months.
