Description
A surprising wheated Bourbon with zero rye… from Redemption Rye Whiskey.
Bardstown Barrel Selections is a small company based in Bardstown, Kentucky — the spiritual and geographic heart of Bourbon country. They know what kinds of flavors they want to get out of a Whiskey, and they go looking for the barrels produced by dozens of large and small distillery shops all across the mid-west. They blend these choice barrels to develop the flavor profiles for their signature brands and impress the crowds with a high-quality and consistent experience across their Whiskeys. Bardstown currently bottles the Redemption Rye product range that’s distilled in Indiana.
Redemption Rye Whiskey is known for producing great Rye Whiskeys. No surprise there. Then they added a high-rye Bourbon to the line up. Again, seems legit. But imagine our surprise when the company “Redemption Rye Whiskey” came out with a wheated Bourbon that has zero rye in it at all? And we were even more surprised at how much we like it.
Redemption Wheated Bourbon has a mash bill of 51% corn, 45% winter wheat, and 4% malted barley. It sits on the knife-edge between Bourbon and Wheat Whiskey. And this approach is definitely NOT typical. Most Wheated Bourbons have roughly equal parts wheat and rye. This 94 point award winner is aged four years in new oak and bottled at a very pleasant 48% ABV.
