Paul John Distilleries was founded by Paul P. John in 1992 in India. To say that their growth has been amazing is to seriously understate things, because in just twenty years they have become one of the largest independent Spirits companies in the world. From their three large production facilities they serve up a broad range of products, including Wines, Brandies, Whiskies, and specialty spirit brands.

As we’ve mentioned before, the Paul John line of Single Malts are created in their newest distillery in Goa on the west coast of central India. All seven varieties have won international awards for quality — and those awards are well-deserved. Paul John Bold is a Single Malt made from local six-row barley, dried over peat imported from Islay. This is where the word “Bold” in the name comes to life. The phenol level (amount of peat flavor) comes in at 25 ppm — right in the middle range. Even an experienced Whisky pro would likely think he was tasting a classic Islay in a blind taste test.
