“Oppidan” is a swanky way of saying “townsman” and according to the philosophy of Oppidan Spirits, modern townsmen create better versions of the existing world each day. It’s about finding the next best thing – or inventing it. Distillation is a pretty old business (at least 4.000 years), but sometimes things need an update. Oppidan’s new American school of distilling is the latest upgrade in the millennia-long evolution. Founded in 2015 by Jeff Walsh, Oppidan takes tradition and enhances it with modern experimentation, coming up with exciting new twists and techniques. Situated not far from Lake Michigan, the Spirit Sorcerers specialize in American Gin and Whiskey, pushing the envelope all the time.

Oppidan’s most famous expression is made from a 5-grain mash of corn, malted rye, chocolate malted rye, Special B, and 2-row barley. The lovely concoction goes through a unique Solera-style maturing process, which the founder of Oppidan says is way too rare nowadays. The Spirit matures in three different wood types: American Oak, French Oak, and Oloroso Sherry barrels – inheriting all the beautiful flavors and aromas in the process. Since the French Oak and Oloroso casks are never emptied, the richness and complexity increases through time.
