Description
The latest and oldest release and Bottled In Bond is a wheated dram in a gorgeous bottle that earns a place on your top shelf.
Heaven Hill Distillers is unique. They are one of the oldest and largest Bourbon distillers in the world, they have the second largest standing inventory of aging Bourbon, and they have grown to become the seventh largest supplier of Spirits in the US. BUT… they are still family owned. In fact, they are the only family-owned production house left in Kentucky. God bless the Shapira family! The Spirit brands owned and controlled by Heaven Hill includes Evan Williams, Elijah Craig, their namesake Heaven Hill, and many dozens more.
Heaven Hill has just released the forth biannual release of it’s “Bottled In Bond” series. This latest entry is the oldest — and we’d argue the best — one of the group so far. It’s called the Fall 2019 Release Old Fitzgerald Bottled In Bond and it’s a full fifteen years old. The barrels were laid down in 2004 and bottled (in that stunning decanter) in December 2019. It’s simply glorious and we are not the first ones to draw favorable comparisons to the grand-daddy of super-premium Bourbons, Pappy Van Winkle — also a wheated dram.
Smartass corner:
To qualify as “Bottled In Bond” a Spirit must be the product one distiller during one distilling season, be aged for a minimum of four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and be bottled at a minimum of 100 proof (50% ABV), among other regulations.
