Description
A Rocky Mountain Single Malt with a decidedly new American style.
Deerhammer was founded by Amy and Lenny Eckstein in 2010. They based their little high-country distillery in Buena Vista, Colorado — smack dab in the middle of some of the best ski resort in the world. They built the entire operation themselves from used dairy equipment. And they contracted an old-hand coper-making artisan who goes by the name “The Colonel” to fashion their custom, Scottish-style copper-pot still. They are a true grain-to-glass operation focused on the product and doing it right.
Deerhammer American Single Malt Whiskey is unique in a few meaningful ways. The first is that they use a combination of four local barley types in their malt. Then they use two different yeast strains to develop their signature flavor profile. It’s fermented in the open air for four to five days and double distilled in an old-school direct fire copper-pot still, and aged on-site in charred virgin oak for a minimum of two years. And this American-style Single Malt is bottled at a perfect 46% ABV because they care about us and want us to be happy.
Smartass Corner:
The term “Single Malt” does not mean a single type of barley. It means that the malted barley was distilled in a single distillery.
