Description
Arberlour Abunadh Alba is a sister dram to their popular Abunadh Single Malt aged in American white oak.
There is some question about the exact date of its founding. But we know for certain that James Fleming either built or rebuilt the Aberlour Distillery in 1879. We also know that Aberlour makes an amazing range of Highland Single Malts in the classic Speyside style and we’d gladly sample ANYTHING that they send our way. And their Whiskies win lots of awards, taking home medals in every serious industry competition they enter.
Aberlour Abunadh Alba is a followup NAS Single Malt to the Aberlour Abunadh release of a few years ago. But where the “first” Abunadh was aged in ex-Sherry casks, Aberlour Abunadh Alba is aged in American White Oak. This makes a huge difference in the character of the Spirit and lets this dram reflect the Highland style better than most of their others. That means more fruit-forward with distinct apple notes that will make your mouth water. And — as you would expect — this golden dram is bottled at a cask strength of 57.1% ABV with no chill-filtering and zero added naughtiness.
Smartass corner:
In Scot’s Gaelic, “Abunadh” means “origin or original.” In Latin, the word “Alba” means “white.” But in Gaelic it refers to Scotland as a whole. That makes Aberlour Abunadh Alba a clever play on words with multiple combinations of meaning.
