Octomore 13.1 Online

Lovers of the peated tipples rejoice. This one goes hard! We imagine the 137.3 PPM will have you ordering this hard-core dram faster than one can say Bruichladdich. (This usually takes a while, but you get the picture.)

They also call this special series ‘The Impossible Equation,’ as it defies the laws of flavor with that elegant, hard-core peat in a way. It’s made from a 2015 harvest of 100% Scottish Mainland barley and aged for 5 years in American oak. It also has a nice ‘little’ kick with 59.2% ABV.

Either way you flip this equation, the result remains a super-Scotch. A serious enthusiast needs one on the roster.

Nose

Like its extremely popular predecessors, Octomore 13 is as young and vibrant. This single malt is carefully distilled from the 2015 harvest of 100% Scottish Mainland barley, malted to a stratospheric 137.3 PPM, and aged in the finest American oak casks.

Palate

Peat, honey, scarcely any sugars. The aftertaste has a reasonable bit of peat and too much cinnamon flavor. Returning to it, the scents include coconut milk, musk, harissa, and sweets made with barley sugar. Although it has a nice mouthfeel, the alcohol is noticeable, and sadly, the nose has more sweetness than the tongue.

Nose (water)

The water has a hint of mint strawberry jam, and lime juice. Peat is behind these notes. Rewinding, there’s a trace of charred wood, barley sweetness, and earthiness.

Palate (water)

Even though the palate is now more balanced than here she water, and there are sweeter flavors to counterbalance spice, we still find it a little too hot, and this heat persists until there’s an end. The alcohol overpowers the smoked oysters and TCP that are also present.
